Summary: A tag to "The Leap Home - Part 1". Katie thinks about Sam's predictions.

	Imagine

_A/N - Okay, this is my first attempt at a Quantum Leap fic. (be kind) I tend to gravitate to minor characters. This came about because I have often wondered about the ramifications of the episode __The Leap Home – Part 1__ besides what happened to Tom. _

_I apologize if the timing of things are a little off, but I wasn't around in 1971 so I'm not sure exactly when the song came out. _

_**Imagine**_

Elk Ridge, Indiana – June 1971

Katie Beckett was glad when the final bell rang. After the summer vacation she would be starting high school. Even though her parents still considered her the baby – especially since Sam was at MIT and Tom was stationed in California – she was really looking forward to growing up. She walked happily down the dirt driveway past the newly sprouting corn and wondered if Sam would be home at all this summer. He'd been doing so well that he'd be graduating ahead of schedule.

Thinking of Sam made her think of Thanksgiving a couple of years back - when he had been acting so strange talking about the future. Even after he had said he made it all up, the possibility of Tom dying in Vietnam had haunted her for months. Of course when he had joined the Navy, they all knew it was a possibility, but Sam had been so sure. She had spent those five months worrying about Tom. Relief finally came at the end of April when a letter arrived from Tom saying he was okay. And so Sam's predictions were cast aside.

Later that evening, she was grudgingly helping her mom wash the supper dishes. It was a little more bearable since her mom let her put on the kitchen radio. She sang along as each song came on. Then, as she was drying the final dish, a hauntingly familiar melody came on.

_Imagine there's no heaven
>It's easy if you try
No hell below us
>Above us only sky
Imagine all the people living for today_

_Imagine there's no countries
>It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
>And no religion too
Imagine all the people living life in peace_

_You, you may say
>I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
>And the world will be as one

The song was interrupted when the plate Katie had been holding crashed to the floor.

"What's wrong, child?" her mother gasped when she saw Katie's ashen face.

"That song."

"What about it? It's new isn't it. I thought you liked that John Lennon." She said bending over to begin picking up the pieces of the shattered plate.

"Sam sang it to me."

Thelma placed the broken plate into the trash beneath the sink and turned to her daughter. "What do you mean 'Sam sang it to you'? Its new honey, the announcer said so."

Katie turned to her mother, a tear sliding down her cheek. "On Thanksgiving." She said quietly, knowing her mother would know which Thanksgiving she was referring to. "He sang that song to me. When Tom came home safe, I figured Sam just made it up. But he wasn't. He said John Lennon would write that song."

Thelma took her daughter into her arms and comforted her the best she could. Finally she sent Katie up to bed. As the evening wore on and she became immersed in her chores, she forgot the incident.

Upstairs in her bedroom, Katie Beckett lay on her bed with the song playing over in her head. As she remembered Sam singing it to her on the porch swing with his guitar, she thought of her father.

_A/N - So how did I do? Questions, comments etc are welcomed with open arms_.
